TALK FOR WRITING
INNOVATION STAGE

Once pupils are familiar with the model text, the teacher leads them into creating their own versions. With younger pupils, this is based on changing the basic map and retelling new versions. Older students use boxed-up plans. Together, pupils generate ideas and organise information to help plan their innovation.

Shared and guided writing is then used to stage writing over a number of days so that pupils are writing their innovation bit by bit, concentrating on bringing all elements of the toolkit together, writing effectively and accurately. Support and feedback is given at every stage, so pupils can edit and improve their learning with green pen/pencil and innovate the story successfully.
