The Cold Task is at the beginning of every unit of Talk for Writing. The task encourages the children to ‘have a go’ at writing a certain genre before any teaching has started. The aim of this is to see what the children can do independently before introducing a model text. Assessment of Cold Task helps the teacher work out what to teach and how to adapt the model text and plan.
